We're Hiring! Join the Good Food Bucks team!

City Green is seeking an enthusiastic people-person to join our team as the Good Food Bucks Communications and Outreach Associate!

The Good Food Bucks Communications and Outreach Associate will support the implementation and operations of City Green’s statewide Good Food Bucks SNAP Nutrition Incentive Program. The Good Food Bucks program provides funding, training, and technical assistance for the doubling of SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) dollars at 60+ participating farmers markets, grocers, and other fresh-food retailers. Good Food Bucks support New Jersey households in gaining access to affordable fresh fruits and vegetables, while also generating revenue for local farmers and businesses.

The Good Food Bucks Communications and Outreach Associate will work closely with City Green's Good Food Bucks Manager, Director of Food Access, and partners to implement this impactful healthy food access program with a vision of ensuring that good food is available for all in the Garden State.

The individual in this position will focus on:

  • cultivating relationships with partner farmers, farmers markets, and grocers

  • outreach and communications to community members, and

  • providing general programmatic support to the statewide Good Food Bucks program.

As the Good Food Bucks program grows and evolves, the individual in this position will have the opportunity to have a lasting impact on the success of City Green’s statewide nutrition incentive programming, which benefits people who use SNAP, NJ’s local farmers, and local businesses.

This position might be right for you if you:

  • Enjoy the local food scene and visiting farmers markets - this position involves frequent visits to the many different (and wonderful!) farmers markets and grocery stores that NJ has to offer in an effort to build relationships and offer information about Good Food Bucks. You are comfortable entering new environments and meeting new people.

  • Have excellent interpersonal and written communication skills - you'll have to engage in conversations with shoppers, farmers, and grocery store workers regularly, as well as write blog posts and social media content. This requires someone who is able to demonstrate cultural proficiency, inclusion, empathy, friendliness, and knowledge about the program. Fluency in Spanish or a second-language is a plus!

  • Are social media and tech savvy - in this role, you'll be responsible for developing content and capturing photos for Good Food Bucks' online presence on Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn accounts. You'll also use Canva to help translate impact data into digestible formats like infographics, and help to keep our website functioning and up to date.

  • Care about making an impact on food and nutrition security in New Jersey - the Good Food Bucks program helps to make healthy food more affordable for an estimated 15,000 individuals each year while also generating revenue for over 90 local farmers. The person in this role will care about helping more people access Good Food Bucks, supporting farmers in expanding their customer base, as well as the quality and integrity of the program's operations. Individuals who have personal or professional experience with food nutrition assistance programs such as SNAP or WIC, or with farmers markets/grocery retail, are strongly encouraged to apply.

  • Have a Valid Drivers License! - you'll be driving to farmers markets and grocery stores in all 21 New Jersey counties, and can expect to be visiting partners approximately 50-60% of the time.

Hours and Compensation:

  • Salary: $46,000 annually

  • This is a full-time, year-round on-site position based at City Green's Farm Eco-Center (171 Grove St., Clifton, NJ 07013) with a varying daily schedule. This position requires frequent site visits to farmers market and grocery store partners throughout all 21 New Jersey counties. Must be available on select weekends and evenings for farmers market site visits and events.

  • Valid driver's license required. Personal vehicle required when City Green vehicles are unavailable. Mileage reimbursement provided.
