Did you know that you can use SNAP at many farmers markets across New Jersey?! SNAP isn’t just accepted at grocery stores and corner stores; you can use it at many markets and farm stands across our state. Farmers Markets bridge the gap between local farmers, local businesses, and community members by offering an alternative, more personal shopping experience. At markets you can get to meet a wide variety of local vendors - including New Jersey farmers selling fresh fruits and vegetables, local artisans selling their crafts, bakers selling their homemade breads and snacks, and many more local businesses!
Farmers Markets sell many SNAP eligible items so when shopping, you will have many opportunities to use your benefits. When you shop at markets or farm stands you know you are getting the freshest, healthiest foods for your family. Farmers Market vendors are excited to chat about their products, and support shoppers in any way they can at the market. Using SNAP at the farmers market means supporting local businesses and growers, getting fresh local goods on the table, and learning more about what's going on in your community.

When using SNAP at the farmers market, it is important to speak with the market manager or vendor first to learn more about how they process SNAP payments. It is different at every market, so getting direction before you start shopping for your groceries will make the experience hassle-free!
The Good Food Bucks program is a SNAP nutrition incentive program that makes shopping at a farmers market more affordable. Good Food Bucks allows you to double the amount of fruits and vegetables you can buy with tokens, coupons, or discounts. Spending your SNAP dollars at farmers markets also supports the local farmers and vendors who are integral to our state's economy.

If you are eligible for SNAP you can automatically receive Good Food Bucks when shopping at participating retailers across NJ. Good Food Bucks allows shoppers to get free fresh produce when shopping with SNAP! This benefit comes in the form of either a 50% discount, coupons, or tokens that can be redeemed for fresh produce the next time you shop. The produce is free because you are paying either half the total cost of your produce or getting “free” coupons to redeem the next time you shop. Learn more about Good Food Bucks partners here. In New Jersey, any farmers markets that accept SNAP can also accept Summer EBT! Summer EBT works just like SNAP at the market – just be sure to activate your card and pin number before shopping! Learn more about Summer EBT here.
Using SNAP, and Good Food Bucks at Farmers Markets is a great way to support local businesses while getting fresh local produce on your table. With the addition of Good Food Bucks you can get more produce for half the price! Farmers Markets and Farms Stands are for everyone and it’s important to continue to support them so that everyone can have access to locally sourced products!
This work is supported by the Gus Schumacher Nutrition Incentive Program, project award no. 2024-70415-43708, from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture.
