Fort Lee, NJ and Brown Mills, NJ - City Green’s statewide Good Food Bucks nutrition incentive program, which helps shoppers purchase more fresh produce, is now available at select ACME Markets in New Jersey. Through an exciting new partnership between ACME Markets (a subsidiary of Albertsons) and City Green, Inc., shoppers who use SNAP to pay for their purchases at the Fort Lee and Brown Mills ACME Market locations can now access more affordable fresh, healthy produce every day of the week with City Green’s Good Food Bucks SNAP Nutrition Incentive program.
Through the Good Food Bucks program at these ACME Market locations, anytime a shopper spends $5 of their SNAP benefits to purchase eligible fresh produce and enters their ACME loyalty phone number at checkout, they will automatically earn a $5 Good Food Buck coupon on their transaction at the bottom of their receipt. Good Food Buck coupons can be redeemed for more fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs, including pre-cut raw fruits and vegetables.
“We are so excited to be working with ACME Markets and having these stores join City Green’s Good Food Bucks program,” City Green’s Director of Food Access, Lisa Martin, shares. “ACME grocery stores have a long track record of addressing food insecurity and offering nutrition incentive programs in communities all over the country. These two ACME stores in Fort Lee and Brown Mills have beautiful produce offerings and friendly staff, and City Green is thrilled that these stores are joining our many farmers markets and grocery store partners all over New Jersey in making healthy food more affordable through Good Food Bucks."
Good Food Bucks supports families in stretching their grocery budgets further, and putting more whole, healthy foods on their tables.
Affordable healthy food is top priority for so many families as New Jersey experiences rapidly rising costs of living. In August 2020, Feeding America released a report estimating a 71% increase in food insecurity in Bergen County. At the end of 2023, over 41,000 individuals in the county were participating in the SNAP program, over 30% of whom are children. In Burlington County, the New Jersey Department of Human Services reports that 22,000 individuals (over 9,600 of whom are children) participate in the SNAP Program (November 2023), and over 7% of the county’s population experiences food insecurity.
“ACME is honored to bring this incredible program to our stores.”, reflects Dana Ward, Director of Communications & Public Affairs for the Mid-Atlantic Division. “Good Food Bucks allows us to better service our customers and honor their healthy purchases. We are grateful for our partnership with City Green for allowing us to help make healthy foods more affordable.
The ACME of Fort Lee (2160 Lemoine Ave, Fort Lee, NJ 07024) will be the first Good Food Bucks location in Bergen County to join the program in 2024, and the ACME of Brown Mills (18 Broadway St, Browns Mills, NJ 08015) will be the first grocer in all of Burlington County to offer Good Food Bucks.
City Green, Inc. has operated the Good Food Bucks program since 2011, which now serves as New Jersey’s largest statewide nutrition incentive program, spanning 35 different grocery stores, farm stands, and farmers markets across 15 counties. Since 2016, over $706,000 in Good Food Bucks incentive dollars have been spent at City Green’s network of partner locations by over 56,000 customers. City Green is proud to be a federal USDA GusNIP grant recipient for administering nutrition incentives across the state.
