You would never guess that tucked behind an elementary school in Morristown is an entire farm. Where a baseball diamond and playground used to be grows an abundance of flowers, and delicious produce grow strong and in abundance. This is where Grow It Green Morristown, a non-profit environmental education and farm organization, does its work.

Grow it Green Morristown's mission is “to build a sustainable future by combining foundational eco-friendly farming practices with inclusive educational programs and events that empower everyone in [their] community to learn and grow together”.

For the last 9 years, Grow It Green Morristown has been a partner in the Good Food Bucks program. At their Urban Farm Stand and the Grow It Green Winter Market, shoppers who use SNAP can get a dollar for dollar match in Good Food Bucks with their purchase of fresh produce.

Grow It Green Morristown’s commitment to food access and environmental education is evident. Their expansive programming, which ranges from pre-k to high school  CSA that continues to  support the Morristown community and beyond.

Farm Work

Don’t let the size of the farm fool you, under the leadership of Director of Agriculture Farmer Shaun Ananko. Grow It Green Morristown is able to grow an abundance of food every year. They grow everything from tomatoes, okra, and squash to a variety of flowers and they even harvest their own honey. The produce they grow throughout the year is sold at their urban farm stand, included in their popular CSA program or donated to families in need. In 2025, Grow it Green Morristown grew 31,000 lbs of food and donated about 7,000 lbs of it to families in need.

Shoppers who use SNAP can get discounts on the CSA share boxes during the 21 week CSA period because Grow It Green Morristown participates in the Good Food Bucks program. Enjoy a variety of farm fresh produce throughout the summer for less!

Outreach and Education

Grow in Green Morristown hosts field trips during fall and spring for grades from pre-k to 7th grade and throughout the year continue to teach our community about their connection to the natural world, about where their food comes from, and about farming and gardening. During the colder months Farmer Kim visits all the students in our 2nd grade to bring the excitement of the farm into the classroom. So when they are in high school the idea of being an intern brings a connection of their youth to the experience.  The high school internship program allows teenagers to work on the farm for the summer and learn leadership skills and problem solving. It is a great opportunity for these students to learn about what it takes to grow food and the ups and downs associated with it.

In addition, they have a farm apprenticeship program, which provides vocational education in farming, land management and money management to members of racial groups that are traditionally underrepresented in agriculture.

Grow it Green Morristown’s programming wouldn’t be possible without the staff who are there everyday working hard to grow amazing food. Shaun Ananko, Director of Agriculture and Interim Executive Director, Marley Weaver, Assistant Farmer, Kim Haupt, Education and Garden Manger, Adenna Gonzales, Operations Coordinator, Adrinenne Novak, Development Manager and Emmauel Vasquez, Farm Stand Advisor work year round to make every year more and more successful at the organization.
