What's in Season in October in New Jersey?

Fall is in full swing here in New Jersey. During this time of year, many of us are spending time enjoying corn mazes, apple picking, pumpkin picking and the vibrant fall foliage right outside our doors. There is also a chill in the air, which signals shorter days, and the slow crawl to a peaceful and serene winter. Until then, take advantage of the season and stop by your local farmers market to enjoy the fall and winter produce available. Farmers around the state are harvesting everything from hearty root vegetables like sweet potatoes and carrots to leafy greens like cabbage and kale. Also, fall is a great time to stock up on produce for the winter. If you want to learn more about how to save summer and fall produce during the winter months stay tuned for our upcoming blog post on freezing, dying and making herb salts. As the season changes, remember to stop by your local market so you can support your local farmers and enjoy everything this beautiful season has to offer.
If you don’t have time to go to the market, you can still shop seasonally at the grocery store. Many of the same vegetables available at local markets are also available at stores during this month.
